Japanese Komai style damascene cigarette case with gold inlay on blackened steel. Two distinct landscape compositions: front depicts a detailed village scene with thatched buildings, bridge, fishing vessels, and trees beneath Mt. Fuji; reverse shows Mt. Fuji with a heron in marsh grass and birds in flight. Damascene construction: gold wire hammered into crosshatched grooves in steel, oxidized black ground. Not painted or printed—the inlay is permanent and intact. Interior lacquered black with brass frame edging and elastic cigarette retainer. Hinge and clasp function well.
