I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE OF THESE IN ABOUT 20 YEARS.
• Initials Stand For: Albert Marcius Silber, one of the partners in the firm.
EACH SIDE IS DEEPLY CHASED WITH BAMBOO AND A DRAGONFLY ON ONE SIDE AND FLOWERS AND A BIRD ON THE OTHER.
PATTERN: Japanese (1879). MATERIAL: Silverplate. White Whale Limited. CONDITION: EXCELLENT condition free of dings, dents, scratches, etc.
Condition: Very good condition with minor signs of age related wear. The teapot has a small dent on the lid and a dent on the side (shown in photos) and the slop bowl has a small dent on the side and the rim (the other 4 pieces have no dents).
One small chip in lower rim as circled. Mild color loss.
The fine white porcelain body and delicate freehand line work strongly recall high quality English cabinet wares of the period, in the manner of Minton and related Staffordshire makers. The decoration appears to be entirely hand painted rather than transfer printed.
MAKER: Stoddart & Co (Attributed. Piece is unmarked.)., Philadelphia, PA, United States, c1880. MATERIAL: Silverplate. WEIGHT: 4lb 3oz.
Edge, Malkin & Co. was a Staffordshire pottery manufacturer in the late 19th century that produced pieces like this popular “Yeddo” pattern pitcher. There’s also two cracks on the interior that start at the rim and form a “V” shape.
