Original 1956 PELAW, GATEHEAD inc. CWS CO-OP PELAW WORKS Ordnance Survey Map

Would be fab framed up. Great and unique Christmas gift idea? Map shows the area of PELAW and the CWS Pelaw Works and railway station. HISTORY Pelaw came into being when the Cooperative Wholesale Society (C.W.S) established factories here in the late 1890s. Built on former agricultural land located between Heworth village and Bill Quay, the works grew to become one of the CWS’ major industrial complexes in Britain. The factory made furniture and during WWII made shirts for the army. Very good condition. See photos. Measures 57cm. 49.4cm. Will be posted rolled up. Came from my dad who obtained lots of these from a school geography resource cupboard.

GALLIA BELGICA BY CHRISTOPHORUS CELLARIUS c1703 THIS VERY DECORATIVE COPPER ENGRAVED MAP OF BELGIUM AND THE NETHERLANDS WAS PRODUCED FOR “NOTITIA ORBIS ANTIQUI SIVE GEOGRAPHIA PLENIOR” PUBLISHED CANTABRIGIAE (CANTERBURY) BY JOANNIS OWENI (JOHN OWEN) 1703 THIS MAP IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH A CENTREFOLD CREASE AS PUBLISHED AND HAND COLOUR. THE MAP MEASURES APPROX 12 x 8 ins (30 x 20 cms) PLUS GOOD MARGINS. THIS IS A GENUINE ANTIQUE MAP OVER 300 YEARS OLD. CHRISTOPHORUS CELLARIUS ALSO KNOWN AS CHRISTOPHER KELLER (1638-1707) WAS A GERMAN SCHOLAR, HISTORIAN, PUBLISHER AND PROLIFIC AUTHOR. “NOTITIA ORBIS” WAS FIRST PUBLISHED IN LEIPZIG 1701-1706 WITH MANY LATER EDITIONS. THIS MAP IS FROM A VERY EARLY EDITION PUBLISHED IN 1703.

Charming late 17th century miniature engraved city plan map with attractive hand color. A remarkable level of detail for such a small map, with hundreds of individual buildings shown. Key at top left locates 9 important places. Remains a nice looking example with a pleasing age patina. Any age flaws mostly minor and easy to overlook or forgive. Original fold lines as issued.
